Sappi honours printers and their pursuit of print excellence
Friday, 20 August 2010The 2010 Sappi African Printers of the Year gala event held in Sun City on 12 August 2010 was a celebration of print excellence where printers and their winning entries shared the spotlight.
At the glittering event hosted by Master of ceremonies Jo-Anne Strauss and entertained by the group NUBIA, this year's theme of Future Imprint was emphasized by Executive Director Marketing: Sappi Paper and Paper Packaging South Africa, Dinga Mncube: "This year, Sappi not only wants to honour the craft of printing and the legacy of the industry, but also the resilience that businessmen and women in your position have exhibited during the tough economic environment of the last two years."

Corporate Social Investment
Our expanding Corporate Social Investment focus aims to alleviate certain issues adversely affecting the people of South Africa and the environment. Paarl Media reaches out to the communities in which we operate through a combination of printing support and/or financial investment in a number of projects as follow:
- R10 million bursary trust for previously disadvantaged students from the Paarl community.
- Miqlat learning centre in Paarl East to provide much needed learning, library and computer resources to the Paarl East community.
- Print sponsorship of The Big Issue whose vendor force is comprised of mainly long-term, unemployed people from the Cape Town townships.
- International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for food security programs.
- Implementation of a ‘FoodTent’ at The House orphanage in Berea to assist with the provision of nutritional food and skills development.
- Financial support and blankets to The Haven Care Centre, to provide shelter, food and clothing.
- Sponsored vehicle for Amado, an organisation that empowers disabled children through animal-assisted therapy.
- School clothes, stationery, food and blankets for abandoned HIV/Aids orphans cared for by Prissked Charities.
- The Carel du Toit Centre to assist children with hearing disabilities.
- Annual contribution to the Paarl Post Christmas fundraising project in aid of the Western Cape Community Chest.
- Subsidised printing for the Society of the Blind and a Tsiba College.
- Monte Christo Ministries Food Center to assist their feeding schemes at schools, soup kitchens and hospitals.
- National Sea Rescue Institute and SOS Children’s Village.
- Paarl Mountain Project to clear the mountain from indigenous plants and alien vegetation.
