Sappi honours printers and their pursuit of print excellence
Friday, 20 August 2010The 2010 Sappi African Printers of the Year gala event held in Sun City on 12 August 2010 was a celebration of print excellence where printers and their winning entries shared the spotlight.
At the glittering event hosted by Master of ceremonies Jo-Anne Strauss and entertained by the group NUBIA, this year's theme of Future Imprint was emphasized by Executive Director Marketing: Sappi Paper and Paper Packaging South Africa, Dinga Mncube: "This year, Sappi not only wants to honour the craft of printing and the legacy of the industry, but also the resilience that businessmen and women in your position have exhibited during the tough economic environment of the last two years."

Paarl Media Group gears up for the future
New equipment
As deliberations with staff members and the representative unions continue, the Paarl Media Group has in the interim procured three new printing presses from Komori. These presses include an LS 1040Pten unit perfecting press, an LS 840P eight unit perfecting press and an LS 640 + C six unit press with anilox coating. Both perfecting presses will be equipped with reel to sheet equipment.

The Paarl Media Group has been overwhelmed by the messages of encouragement and support from staff, the community, clients, suppliers and the printing industry following the devastating effect of the fire at Paarl Print.
Paarl Print mourns their colleagues and friends
The tragic event of 17 April 2009 left the Paarl Print family in shock and the whole group mourns the loss of our colleagues and friends. It was with sadness that we learnt over the past two days that two more staff members passed away. Our prayers are constantly with the families of the deceased as well as those hospitalised and we will continue to support them in any way possible to relieve their burden of grief at this time.
Paarl Print pledges its commitment to its people
At a wreath laying ceremony held this morning at the Paarl Print site of the tragic events of Friday 17 April 2009, the management of the Paarl Media Group stressed their support of their people and their families to help them recover from this.
Support fund for the Paarl Print fire victims
Following the tragic loss of nine lives and with nine still in hospital after the devastating fire at the Paarl Print plant on Friday morning, Paarl Media has established a Family Support Fund for the victims’ next of kin.

The Paarl Print plant in Dal Josafat, Paarl, has been extensively damaged in a fire that broke out just before 08h00 this morning. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained. The management of Paarl Print are fully cooperating and working with the authorities involved in the investigations thereof.
